Ballet shoe: canvas or leather?
Canvas is lighter and lets you feel the foot more, leather gives more support and often lasts longer. Many schools leave the choice open, others ask for one of the two. Stretch canvas hugs the foot closely and shows the line well. If you are unsure, try both on in the shop.
Do sizes run the same across brands?
No, and that is exactly why fitting matters. Merlet, So Dança and Capezio each use their own sizing, and it does not match your street shoe size. Come and try them on in Bruges or Schoten and the right size and width will be determined for the brand you choose.
Can I come and try things on first?
Yes. Maillots Pavlova has shops in Bruges and Schoten where you can try things on and be measured. That is the safest way to choose, because sizes run differently per model and per brand. You can save your favourites in a list on the webshop and bring that list along or send it ahead, so everything is ready when you arrive.
